Service Pack 1a is for the following Autodesk products, locked and unlocked, and running on all supported operating systems and languages:

• AutoCAD 2004
• AutoCAD LT 2004

This service pack is required for any AutoCAD 2004 extensions.

If you download the service pack using the Live Update feature in Communication Center, the service pack version that you need is automatically identified. If you have the same product in multiple languages, all applicable versions will be patched. Separate patches are needed for locked and unlocked versions.

If you decide to download the service pack manually, use the following guidelines to determine which service pack to download:

Download and install the locked version of the service pack if you are using one of the following:

• Educational or trial version of AutoCAD 2004 or AutoCAD LT 2004
• International English version of AutoCAD 2004

Download and install the unlocked version of the service pack in all other instances.

It is recommended that you create a backup of all custom MNU, MNS, MNR, MNL, and MNC files before installing the service pack.

During the installation of this update, you will be prompted for the original installation CD or network image.

Once this service pack is applied, you cannot run an automatic uninstall to remove the service pack.

Summary of the Primary Issues Resolved by the Service Pack

• Fixes the causes of several intermittently encountered failures, including ones in 3D Orbit, the Customize dialog box, and when dragging objects between drawings.
• Corrects a problem with draw order when using the Bind option of the XREF command.
• Fixes several problems with hyperlinks in DWF files. To take advantage of the fixes when viewing DWF files, download the latest version of the Autodesk Express Viewer from the Autodesk website.
• Corrects the problem of the command line disappearing under some circumstances.
• Fixes a problem so that a space or semicolon now acts correctly as an ENTER with the SETENV macro in the system registry.
• Fixes several problems with REVDATE blocks in AutoCAD LT 2004.
• Corrects other miscellaneous issues.

Depending on the product and the type of installation, this service pack updates the following files for AutoCAD 2004 and AutoCAD LT 2004.

Three new Windows command line switches are built into this service pack. The switches are as follows:

/e - Extracts the MSP file from the service pack executable.

/p - Extracts a patch list from the service pack executable.

/q - Suppresses the completion message after the service pack is applied. This is useful if you use a script or batch file to apply the service pack to multiple computers.

Instructions about how to use the /e and /p command line switches are included in the procedures that follow.

To apply Service Pack 1a to a stand-alone installation, follow the installation instructions that are shown under “Apply this Service Pack to a Stand-Alone Installation.”

If Service Pack 1 has been applied to a network administrative image and that image has been used to install the product on local computers, the following procedure must be used to apply Service Pack 1a on those computers and on the network administrative image.

NOTE: Once the administrative image has been updated with Service Pack 1a, you will not be able to apply Service Pack 1a to clients previously installed from this administrative image; thus it is important that you first update all previously installed clients with Service Pack 1a before modifying the administrative image with Service Pack 1a.

1. On the AutoCAD 2004 CD (or on the AutoCAD 2004 LT CD), in the \Bin\ACADFeui\ folder (or the \Bin\ACLTFeui\ folder, as appropriate), copy the m5.cab file to a temporary location on your computer (for example, C:\temp).
2. Using WinZip, extract the file RDF_COMP_acdb16.dll.186519C2_7181_47C5_BE96_E41339C from m5.cab.
3. Rename the file RDF_COMP_acdb16.dll.186519C2_7181_47C5_BE96_E41339C to acdb16.dll.
4. In the Autodesk Shared folder of the administrative image <Administrative Image Path>\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\, rename the acdb16.dll file to acdb16.dll.sav.
5. Copy the acdb16.dll file extracted in step 2 to <Administrative Image Path>\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\.
6. Right-click the acdb16.dll file that you just copied, and then click Properties.
7. Click the Version tab.
8. Confirm that the version is 16.0.0.86.
9. Apply Service Pack 1a to all client installations previously created from this administrative image either by running Live Update from the client installations, or by following the stand-alone installation instructions that are shown under “Apply this Service Pack to a Stand-Alone Installation.”
10. Apply Service Pack 1a to this administrative image by following the installation instructions in the procedure titled “To apply AutoCAD 2004 Service Pack 1a to an existing AutoCAD 2004 administrative image.”

NOTE: Once the administrative image is modified with Service Pack 1a, all subsequently created client installations will be created with Service Pack 1a installed.

1. Download the service pack and save it to any folder.
2. Insert your AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT CD into your CD drive.
3. Navigate to the folder where you saved the service pack.
4. Double-click the executable file for the service pack to install it.

Use this procedure if you want to use Communication Center to apply this service pack through your local network.

To apply this service pack through Communication Center using local patch list functionality

1. Insert the AutoCAD 2004 CD into your local computer's CD-ROM drive.
2. From the Autodesk Product Support website, download <AutoCAD 2004 Service Pack 1a>.exe and <AutoCAD 2004 Service Pack 1a Readme>.htm to a local server.

   NOTE: Make sure that all users who need to apply the service pack have access to this server.

3. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following information, and then click OK:

   \\<local server name>\<patch name>\ /p <patch list location name>\<patch list name>

   For example:

   c:\V086_V124_ACAD_UNL.exe /p c:\patchlist.txt

   The contents of the patch list file are similar to the following:

4. Open the patch list file. If there is more than one patch list, the lists are separated by asterisks (*****).
5. Change the fifth line in step 3, PatchFileLocation, from:

   PatchFileLocation=\\\\<your_server_name>\\<your_share_name>\\<subfolders>\\<patch_name>.exe or ftp://<your_server_name>/<your_share_name>/<your_path>/<patch_name>.exe

   to one of the following:

   • If you want to make the service pack available from a file server, enter:
     PatchFileLocation=\\\\<your_server_name>\\<your_share_name>\\<subfolders>\\<patch_name>.exe

   • If you want to make the service pack available from an FTP server, enter:
     ftp://<your_server_name>/<your_share_name>/<your_path>/<patch_name>.exe

6. Change the last line in step 3, PatchDescLocation, from:

   PatchDescLocation=\\\\<your_server_name>\\<your_share_name>\\<subfolders>\\<readme_name>.html or ftp://<your_server_name>/<your_share_name>/<your_path>/<readme_name>.html

   to one of the following:

   • If you want to make the Readme available from a file server, enter:
     PatchDescLocation=\\\\<your_server_name>\\<your_share_name>\\<subfolders> \\<readme_name>.html

   • If you want to make the Readme available from an FTP server, enter:
     ftp://<your_server_name>/<your_share_name>/<your_path>/<readme_name>.html

7. Save and close the patch list file.
8. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following:

   <your_CD-ROM drive:>\CDROM:\BIN\ACADFeui\Support\CADManagerControl

9. Double-click CMControl.exe.
10. In the CAD Manager utility, in the product list, select AutoCAD 2004, and then click OK.
11. In the CAD Manager utility, on the Communication Center tab, do the following:
    • In the Live Update Configuration list, select Enable Using Local Patch List.
    • In the Local Patch List Location box, enter the same local patch list location that you entered in step 2.
    • Click Apply to save these settings to your own system.

12. At the bottom of the CAD Manager utility, in the drop-down list, select Create .reg Registry File. Then click OK.
13. In the Save As dialog box, save the file to your system. Make note of this location.

The registry file is now ready to be made available to users. Distribute and execute the file to users by implementing the method of your choice.

NOTE: You must execute the service pack on each workstation that is running AutoCAD 2004.

The following two methods of distributing AutoCAD 2004 Service Pack 1a apply only to administrative images created with the AutoCAD 2004 Network Installation wizard. After you complete these procedures, any new deployments of AutoCAD 2004 will have the service pack applied to them automatically.

NOTE: In both of the following procedures, the patch (service pack) file that you download contains an MSP (Microsoft Patch) file. You must extract that file from the executable file. To extract the MSP file from the executable, use the /e ("extract") switch.

1. From the Autodesk Product Support website, download <AutoCAD 2004 Service Pack 1a>.exe to your local computer.
2. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following information, and then click OK:

   <local drive:>\<patch name>\ /e <local drive:>\<patch name.msp>

3. On the computer where you installed the Network Installation wizard, on the Start menu (Windows), click Autodesk > Network Installation Wizard.
4. In the Network Installation wizard, on the Welcome page, select Create an Administrative Image, and then click Next.
5. On the Create Administrative Image page, in the Select Autodesk Installer (MSI) File box, enter the path to acad.msi, the MSI file you use as the basis for your administrative image. This file is found on your product CD-ROM, in CDROM:\BIN\ACADFeui.
6. In the Administrative Image Location box, enter an existing shared network location where you want to create an administrative image, or click Browse to navigate to a location. Users install AutoCAD from this location.
7. Select the Apply a Patch (Service Pack) to This Image option.
8. In the Select Patch box, enter the path to the patch location (the location you entered in step 2, including the extension .msp). You can also Browse to locate the MSP file.
9. Click Next, and follow the instructions in the Network Installation wizard to complete the deployment of this service pack.

1. From the Autodesk Product Support website, download <AutoCAD 2004 Service Pack 1a>.exe to your local computer.
2. On the Start menu (Windows), click Run. Enter the following information, and then click OK.

   <local drive:>\<patch name>\ /e <local drive:>\<patch name>.msp

3. On the computer where you installed the Network Installation wizard, on the Start menu (Windows), click Autodesk > Network Installation Wizard.
4. In the Network Installation wizard, on the Welcome page, select Modify an Administrative Image, and then click Next.
5. On the Modify Administrative Image page, in the Select an MSI File box, select an existing Autodesk installer file (MSI) from an existing shared network location that contains the administrative image you want to modify. Users install AutoCAD from this location.
6. Select the Apply a Patch (Service Pack) to This Image option.
7. In the Select Patch box, enter the path to the patch location (the location you entered in step 2, including the extension .msp). You can also Browse to locate the MSP file.
8. Click Next, and follow the instructions in the Network Installation wizard to complete the deployment of this service pack.
